We founded citrus-based cleaning almost nine decades ago with an unwavering commitment to provide our customers with effective, safer alternatives to toxic chemicals. 1932: It started with an orange…

In the 1930’s, dental impression cement was one of the toughest problems to remove. Many had tried unsuccessfully to remove it, typically with diesel fuel or toxic alternatives. In 1932, Edwin Lloyd Ackerman, a chemist and father-in-law of ORANGE-SOL founder Albert Farnsworth, was blending a batch of impression cement. As he stopped for lunch and began to peel an orange, Ackerman noticed the resins dissolving from his hands.

After much research and sourcing of the highest quality components, the first SAFE formulation of Orange Solvent was born… and with this, so began the birth of Citrus Cleaning Technology.

Upon Ackerman’s death in the mid-seventies, ORANGE-SOLVENT™ continued while an improved, more versatile version, De-Solv-it (visit de-solv-it.com), was launched. Millions of bottles later, De-Solv-it® Citrus Solution™ remains the top International performer on a host of specialty applications including crayon, gum, candle wax, oil, grease and more.

Today, ORANGE-SOL products remain revolutionary and innovative, and while PRODUCT SAFETY is a critical design parameter, we insist it MUST harmonize with STRONG EFFICACY. We regularly collect data on ORANGE-SOL products and their components to assure minimum degree of hazard, especially with respect to skin and eye irritation, inhalation, and ingestion. We also strive to manufacture products whose flash points are as high as possible. We will not formulate with any components that are known carcinogens.

Since 1932, we have developed products to serve a broad spectrum of customer needs; from medical applications to the remediation of major oil spills.

Over 200,000 gallons of ORANGE-SOL products were used to help clean up the tragic Alaskan Oil Spill in the late eighties and we have continued to assist with other oil spill cleanups around the world.

ORANGE-SOL products are developed and tested thoroughly and have passed the rigors of customers such as CAT®, Disney®, Holland America Line®, UNION PACIFIC® and more. ORANGE-SOL products clean everything from gum in household carpet to residue on massive earth movers with no harmful vapors or hazardous components.

Variations of ORANGE-SOL products have been safely used to remove adhesive patches from premature babies in neonatal units. Even to remove tar and asphalt from and around burn victim wounds. Medi-Sol®, one of ORANGE-SOL’s medical brands was even presented favorably to the American Burn Center Conference by Intermountain Burn Center of Salt Lake City, UT and was recommended by The American Journal of Surgery and American Burn Association for use on burn wounds.

Over the years, Medi-Sol Adhesive Remover has been used as an adhesive and tar remover in trauma centers, hospitals, and care facilities across the U.S. These facilities include Cedar Sinai Hospital, George Washington Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Shriner's Children’s Hospital, and Berkeley Medical Center, to name a few.
